Salt Lake City high rise is ready for occupancy on Main
Salt Lake City building officials gave the 22-story high rise at 222 S. Main a certificate of occupancy, but it looks like few workers will be occupying it for now. The building's developer, Hamilton Partners of the Chicago area, has only 20 percent of the building leased, said Bruce Bingham, a founding partner of Hamilton, at a roundtable discussion of downtown development

The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has issued commonsense fact sheets that employers and workers can use to promote safety during the current H1N1 influenza outbreak. The fact sheets inform employers and workers about ways to reduce the risk of exposure to the 2009 H1N1 virus at work. .

Orem City Council approves new hotel
The council first resolved a matter of setback allowances along an access road near 1100 S. Geneva Road. Then the council heard a recommendation from the planning commission that the city approve the site plan for a Holiday Inn Express in the PD-21 zone. According to Stanford Sainsbury, Development Services director, the site plan met all the requirements of the zone.

Jacobsen Construction Continues at USU
Jacobsen Construction has been retained as the Construction Manager / General Contractor for the new Utah State University (USU) College of Agriculture Building in Logan. Utah's DFCM (Division of Facilities and Construction Management) announced the Jacobsen award on the $35 million, 110,000 gross square foot construction project on Monday, November 02, 2009. The announcement came following a Value Based Selection process that had involved four of the state's major contractors

NEMA Announces Consensus Legislative Proposal on Outdoor Lighting Standards
The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) announced ground-breaking consensus legislation, which will, for the first time ever, set federal efficiency standards for pole-mounted outdoor lighting. GSBS Architects has been selected to design a 160,000 square-foot science building at Utah Valley University in Orem. Salt Lake third ranked U.S. city for economic activity
Utah's economy may be beat up and bruised by the nation's recession, but the three major metropolitan areas along the Wasatch Front actually have performed relatively well when it comes to creating or sustaining jobs. The Salt Lake City metro area finished third this year in the Best-Performing Cities index complied by the Milken Institute of Santa Monica, Calif., and Greenstreet Real Estate Partners of Coconut Grove, Fla., duplicating its performance in 2008.
